FASHION MOVIES YOU NEED TO WATCH

We are suckers for movies. Personally, I use movies to relax especially after a crazy day. I also use movies to learn and get inspired. When it comes to movies, almost everyone on the planet earth can testify to being movie fans.

When it comes to fashion movies.. now, that’s an entirely exciting thing to look forward to.

Movies one way or another form part of our society today. Fashion is influenced by movies and movies influenced by fashion. These two areas play a role in each other’s lives and have contributed immensely to both industries.

For people who are in the fashion industry, it could be very exciting to watch movies about the fashion industry or movies that have some fashion factor in them. From documentaries to fictional movies, fashion movies are never a dull moment and there’s a lot to learn, get inspired by and just have a good movie night with.

We have taken the pleasure of putting together some of our favourite fashion movies both recent and old.

SEX AND THE CITY

TV show and movies exploring the personal life of four friends as they navigate through life exploring dating and romance.

The fashion and style of the women in this show have been used as referral point and inspiration for various fashion statements and designs.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

Story of how a college graduate (acted by Anne Hathaway) lands a job with a top notch magazine working as the assistant to the ‘ice-queen’ editor-in-chief (acted by Meryl Streep).

Her struggle to meet up to the expectations of her boss, colleagues, boyfriend and fashion industry.

COCO BEFORE CHANEL

A movie based on the story of Coco Chanel. How she broke convention, stepped out of the box and built a statement, movement and brand that has lived on for decades even after her death. Women empowerment in fashion cannot be told without her name included.

If you’re looking to venture into the fashion industry or if you’re in the industry and looking for some empowerment and inspiration. You should watch this movie.

THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

A documentary about how the most anticipated legendary magazine issue of the year, September is carried out by the legendary VOGUE Magazine.

This also gives you insight into how a magazine issue comes to life, the good, bad and ugly, the ups and downs and the sweet and sour side of how things work. Plus, you get to see how Anna Wintour and her team pull things off.

Just as the name is, it’s a movie about the life of a New York city girl  who is a chronic shopaholic. As she lands the role of a journalist for a financial company which is also owned by the fashion magazine company she dreams of working in, she struggles to balance her ‘out of the blue’ successful career with her shopaholic syndrome, love and life.
